Bolsena Lake

Wow! Once school starts and homework is assigned, life is really busy in Italy, it’s like I’m actually in college again lol. So since the last time I wrote, I have done a few interesting things here.  Last Friday, LDM took our class to a nearby town called Bolsena.  Bolsena had a few highlights.  We first visited the lake, and the stores surrounding it just to get some food because for some reason im ALWAYS hungry here.

Then we get back in the van (by the way our driver Massimo is a wack job driver- I feel like the only way one can know what it’s like driving with him is if you have ever seen the Harry Potter movie, when Harry is like driving around in that bus, and the bus driver is CRAZY and they speed all around London and the bus shrinks when they drive in between two cars lol to say the least Italians are crazy drivers!
So, we then went to the little village of Bolsena, very cute, typical little Italian town, narrow streets, many cute shops, very fashionable with their shiny puffy jackets with fur and/or belt lol.

There we learned the history and landmarks and architecture but the one thing that interested me most was the church we visited.  We visited the Church where patron Saint Christiana’s ashes were.  We learned all about her life, her actions, her beliefs etc.  This was really cool because at home, the church I go to is called Saint Christiana!

Side Note: In the little towns of Italy, there is much history and ancient architecture still preserved.  Even in the town I call home for 3 months, Tuscania.  The common phrases used "in the walls" or "outside the historical center" because there are actual walls that were created centuries ago still exist and serve not only as just a wall but is history!
So, in St. Christiana Church, there is access to the catacombs underneath the church that have been preserved and now open to the public.  Along with walking in an underground cemetery basically, we learned about how and why people were buried there-very creepy, especially because the lights went off while we were down there.  All in all, a very exhausting day to say the least.

Ciao!
Another day another adventure!
